How to survive a heartbreak

If you’ve experienced the dark, you can better appreciate the light

We all have to experience darker days at some point in our lives. Bad things happen, but they don’t have to make us sour. It’s how we handle our troubles that count, not the troubles themselves. Whatever you’ve lost, never lose hope. Every experience we have in life is designed to make us stronger.

From my own experiences I’ve realised that when disaster strikes, remembering the 4 important ‘F’s in life will help us sail through the storm:

Forgive

It’s not as difficult to apologise as it is to live with a guilty conscience.

Letting go of grudges and bitterness can be the first step in moving on. And, where did we get the idea that if we don’t forgive people, they suffer? If the mistake is yours, forgive yourself. Knowing that mistakes are a part of life and learning from them is an art which anyone can learn with practice.

Family

Never underestimate the amazing power of love to mend hearts.

When something goes wrong, the first impulse would be to just shut down and wallow in self-pity, which ironically makes you feel worse. A word of encouragement from a loved one is as refreshing as a cold drink on a hot summer day. There is no wound that cannot be healed with a warm hug from a loved one. It’s a little bit of heaven on earth.

Friends

If something seems too big for you to handle, it may be because you are meant to share the load.

A deep friendship is like a rainbow. When the perfect amount of happiness and tears are mixed, a colourful rainbow is formed between two hearts. Friends are like-minded people whose advice almost always works for us. If you give up under unfortunate circumstances, it is the family and friends who will suffer, living with guilt for the rest of their lives, to say the least.

Faith

Don’t mistake a bend in the road to be the end of the road.

To lose money, health, trust or loved ones is a great tragedy, but the greatest tragedy is losing faith. Faith can be regained in that very moment when you turn to God with a believing spirit. When everything and everyone else fails you, faith and hope will help you come out of any difficult situation as a better and stronger person.

The option is yours: You can give up when something goes wrong, or you can let misfortune transform you into something better.
